A repeatable 8-step pipeline we follow on every project — from discovery to live-ops — with weekly demo builds, clear milestones, and signed-off deliverables at every stage.
- 01Step 01 / Week 1
Discovery & Strategy
We define game goals, target audience, platforms, monetization model, and competitive positioning. Stakeholders align on success metrics, risks, and budget before a single line of code is written.
Deliverable: Signed Project Brief - 02Step 02 / Weeks 2 – 3
Game Design Document (GDD)
The full design blueprint is written: core loop, mechanics, progression systems, economy, level structure, narrative beats, and UI flow. The GDD is locked before production and becomes the single source of truth.
Deliverable: Locked GDD - 03Step 03 / Weeks 3 – 5
Art Direction & Concept
Mood boards, style guides, character sheets, environment concepts, and UI direction are produced. The art bible ensures every asset, animation, and screen stays visually consistent across the entire project.
Deliverable: Art Bible & Style Guide - 04Step 04 / Weeks 4 – 10
Prototype & Vertical Slice
A playable prototype proves the core loop, controls, and fun-factor. The vertical slice — one polished level or match — validates art, audio, and engineering pipelines end-to-end before scaling production.
Deliverable: Playable Vertical Slice - 05Step 05 / Production Phase
Full Production
The full game is built at scale across engineering, art, animation, audio, and level design. Weekly demo builds, sprint reviews, and milestone sign-offs keep the project transparent and on track.
Deliverable: Feature-Complete Build - 06Step 06 / Final 3 – 6 Weeks
QA & Performance Tuning
Dedicated QA runs device-matrix testing, performance profiling, memory and battery audits, network stress tests, and final bug-bash cycles. The output is a stable, store-ready release candidate.
Deliverable: Release Candidate Build - 07Step 07 / Soft Launch
Soft Launch & Iteration
The game ships to limited geographies for real-world KPI testing — retention, ARPDAU, session length, funnel drop-offs, crash rates. Iteration cycles tune economy, difficulty, and onboarding before global release.
Deliverable: Soft-Launch KPI Report - 08Step 08 / Ongoing
Live-ops & Post-launch Support
Post-launch we handle content drops, seasonal events, balance patches, OS and store-policy updates, analytics, ASO/UA support, and server maintenance — keeping the game healthy, growing, and retaining players for years.
Deliverable: Monthly Live-ops Cadence
Game Engines & Tech Stack by Genre

We also work with Godot, GameMaker, Cocos2d, Phaser, Bevy, and fully native stacks (Swift/Kotlin/C++) when the project genuinely calls for them.
Four Engagement Models to Choose From
Pick the model that fits how clearly your scope is defined and how long you expect to run. All four models include the same team quality, NDA protection, weekly demos, and full source-code handover — only the commercial structure changes.
| Engagement Model | Best For | Minimum Commitment | Billing Cadence | Scope Flexibility |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fixed BidFixed Price | Well-defined scope, MVPs, prototypes, one-off builds, and projects with a locked GDD and clear deliverables. | One project No ongoing commitment | Milestone-based Typically 4–6 milestones | Low Locked scope; changes via formal change-orders. |
| HourlyTime & Materials | Iterative builds, exploratory work, R&D, ongoing tweaks, smaller feature additions, and projects where scope evolves week-to-week. | 40 hours ~1 week of one resource | Weekly invoicing Timesheets shared every Friday | High Reprioritize sprint-to-sprint without renegotiation. |
| Dedicated TeamMonthly Retainer | Long-term builds, AAA, MMORPGs, open-world titles, multiplayer titles with live-ops, and studios that need a stable extended team. | 3 months Renewable monthly thereafter | Monthly retainer Fixed per-seat pricing | Highest Roadmap shifts freely; team treated as your own. |
| HybridFixed Core + Retainer | Fixed core build plus ongoing live-ops — ship the launch under a fixed bid, then move to a retainer for content drops, events, and post-launch growth. | 1 milestone + monthly Transitions at launch | Milestone + monthly Hybrid invoicing | Medium-High Locked launch scope, fully flexible post-launch. |
Not sure which model fits? Most clients start with a Fixed Bid prototype or a small Hourly engagement to validate fit, then transition to a Dedicated Team or Hybrid model for the full build. We're happy to recommend a structure during the discovery call based on your scope, timeline, and budget.
Frequently Asked Questions
The five questions every client asks before kicking off a game project — answered directly.
01 How much does it cost to develop a game with NipsApp?
Hourly rates run from $18/hr for hyper-casual and casual builds up to $28/hr for flagship MMORPGs, with most genres landing between $22 and $26 per hour. Rates are flat across mid and senior engineers, designers, and artists.
Total project cost depends on genre, scope, multiplayer requirements, art direction, target platforms, and live-ops needs. Fixed-bid milestone pricing and dedicated-team monthly retainers are also available, and we'll recommend the right structure during the discovery call.
02 How long does it take to build a game?
Build time is driven by genre and scope. Hyper-casual and casual titles ship in 2 to 6 weeks. Mid-complexity genres like puzzle, racing, platformer, and fighting typically take 6 to 24 weeks. Complex genres like shooting, RTS, battle royale, and open-world take 18 to 52 weeks. Flagship MMORPGs usually need 48 to 80 weeks from kickoff to soft launch.
Every engagement includes weekly demo builds, so progress is verifiable from week one and timelines are recalibrated each sprint.
03 Who owns the source code, IP, and game assets?
The client owns 100% of the source code, intellectual property, art assets, audio, and design documents on completion of each milestone. Ownership transfers as deliverables are signed off — there is no NipsApp branding embedded in shipped builds, no shared IP, and no royalty structure unless explicitly agreed in writing.
Source code is handed over via a private Git repository, and full asset bundles are delivered at the end of every project.
04 Do you sign NDAs and how is confidentiality handled?
Yes. A mutual NDA is signed before any concept, scope, or commercial detail is shared. Internally, every project is siloed to its assigned team members, source repositories are private, and every team member signs an individual confidentiality agreement on joining.
NDAs typically remain in force for 3 to 5 years post-engagement, and we're happy to work with your own NDA template if you prefer.
05 What does post-launch support and live-ops cover?
Post-launch support typically covers bug fixes, performance optimization, OS and app-store policy updates, seasonal content drops, in-game events, balance patches, analytics and KPI dashboards, ASO and UA support, and server maintenance for multiplayer titles.
Support is offered as a monthly retainer or hourly bucket, scoped to the title's complexity and player base. Most clients move into a live-ops retainer immediately after soft launch.
