Blush & Pieces: Porting an 18+ Anime Puzzle Game from PC to iOS and Android
Blush & Pieces is a casual tile-rotation picture puzzle game with anime art and short story scenes, made for adults aged 18 and over. NipsApp Game Studios ported the original PC game to iPhone, iPad and Android in Unity 6, rebuilt every screen for touch, added daily retention features and expanded the game to 50 levels.
Project Overview
What is Blush & Pieces? Blush & Pieces is a picture puzzle game. Each illustration is cut into square tiles that are turned the wrong way. The player taps tiles to rotate or mirror them until the picture matches the goal image. Each finished picture unlocks a short story scene with one of the game's characters.

The Challenge: A PC Puzzle Game That Did Not Work on Phones
The client is an independent developer of anime puzzle games for adult audiences. Their game was built for PC and Steam, with mouse controls and a desktop layout. They wanted to reach mobile players on the App Store and Google Play without losing the look and feel of the original game.
Mouse-only controls
Left, right and middle mouse clicks rotated and mirrored tiles. Phones have none of these, so the core puzzle could not be played by touch.
Desktop interface
Small buttons, hover tooltips and side panels were designed for a large monitor and did not fit a phone screen or the iPhone Dynamic Island.
No reason to return
The PC game had no daily goals, rewards or star ratings. Mobile players expect short sessions and a reason to come back every day.
Limited content
Only 20 puzzles were available in the base game, which is thin for a free mobile game.
Desktop leftovers
Steam integration, desktop branding and store text from the PC version had to be removed for a clean mobile release.
Store rules for 18+ games
Apple and Google have strict content rules. The game, its icon, screenshots and listing all had to be prepared to pass review.
The Solution: A Complete Mobile Edition in Unity 6
NipsApp Game Studios rebuilt the game for mobile in five areas: touch controls, a new interface, new retention features, more levels, and a store-ready release. The original puzzles, art and story were kept.
1. Touch Controls Built for Puzzles
- Tool bar: Turn left, Turn right and Mirror buttons replace mouse buttons. The player picks a tool and taps a tile.
- Strip puzzles: on puzzles where whole rows or columns turn together, players tap the strip or use numbered strip buttons.
- Pinch to zoom on large boards with up to 280 pieces.
- Accurate taps: a tap is told apart from a drag using the screen's real pixel density, so small finger movements no longer cancel a tap.
- No accidental moves: a tap that starts on a button never turns the tile underneath it.
2. A Modern Mobile Interface
Every screen was redesigned in a dark plum and rose pink style with glass panels, rounded cards and clear icons.
- Home screen with the player's level, stars, ribbons, a Continue card and the daily puzzle card.
- Bottom navigation bar for Home, Puzzle, Cast, Charms, Album and Menu. Locked tabs show how to unlock them.
- Puzzle screen with level name, restored percentage, move counter, live star rating and the goal picture.
- Cast screen with a tab for each character and a grid of level cards showing stars and locks.
- Story scenes with bold, readable text and a clear "Tap to continue" cue.
- Safe area support so no control sits under the iPhone Dynamic Island, a notch or the home indicator.
3. New Features That Bring Players Back
Star ratings
Every puzzle is graded from 1 to 3 stars based on the fewest possible moves. Players can replay any puzzle from the Album to earn 3 stars.
Daily puzzle
A new picture every day, with its own stars, a day streak and an experience reward. Board size grows from 4x4 early in the week to 6x6 at the weekend.
Daily quests and weekly chest
Three small quests each day, such as "Earn 4 stars" or "Finish the daily puzzle". Twelve quests in a week open a chest with a large reward.
Character affection
Each character has a heart meter with five levels, from Acquainted to Beloved. It fills as the player restores that character's pictures.
Ribbons and hints
Ribbons are an in-game currency earned only by playing. A hint costs 10 ribbons and fixes one wrong tile. There are no paid purchases.
Charms and album
Collectible charms give helpful powers, and the memory album keeps every restored picture to view again.
4. From 20 to 50 Levels
We built a level generator that creates harder versions of the original pictures. Levels 1 to 20 are the original puzzles. Levels 21 to 40 (Hard) split every piece into four and add mirrored tiles. Levels 41 to 50 (Expert) add 45 degree turns, for 16 possible positions per tile and boards of up to 280 pieces. Hard and Expert levels unlock one at a time after all 20 originals are finished.
5. Store-Ready Release
- Android APK and an iOS Xcode project for iPhone and iPad.
- New app icon at every size, including the 1024 x 1024 App Store icon.
- Apple privacy manifest, export compliance and age rating setup.
- No quit button on iOS, as Apple requires.
- Steam code, old desktop branding and old store text removed.
- 10 App Store screenshots each for iPhone and iPad, plus a 2K YouTube trailer.
Inside the Mobile Game

Our Development Process
- Audit. We reviewed the PC project, its puzzle logic, save system and every screen, and listed what blocked a mobile release.
- Port and touch controls. We moved the project to Unity 6, set up IL2CPP builds for Android and iOS, and rebuilt the input for touch.
- Interface redesign. We designed a new visual style and rebuilt each screen in code on top of the existing game logic, so saves and puzzles kept working.
- New features. We added stars, the daily puzzle, quests, affection, ribbons and hints, all saved in the player's existing save slot.
- Automated testing. We played all 50 levels automatically from start to finish and sent taps through the game's own touch code on every level.
- Client feedback rounds. We fixed each item the client reported from real phones, often the same day.
- Store preparation. We prepared icons, screenshots, the privacy manifest, the age rating, the store listing and the trailer.
